Dear Members of the GIIP Community,
This summer was a flurry of activity for all of us here at GIIP. We carried out a number of large events, submitted some very promising grants, continued building and enterprises group for more sustainable revenue, and worked to improve our own organization. Before I run through more details I need to offer many thanks to Christina Hamill, Julie Caso, Jon Madden, Katie Roper, and other star students that worked very hard this summer putting on events and moving GIIP forward. read more...
TechCamp '07 Empowers over 80 Organizers
GIIP’s mission to upgrade the informational capacity of community groups was a unifying theme of this summer’s events. TechCamp, a collaborative effort with the Progressive Tech Project (PTP) is a stellar example. Designed to teach technology skills, build confidence and provide hands on experience, TechCamp is an intense 4 day training program designed for non profit organizations. In all, over 80 community and grass roots activists took part of this innovative program. Last year’s popularity and over full capacity prompted PTP and GIIP to add an additional TechCamp in Minneapolis, MN to this years schedule. read more...
Team GIIP Tackles College Admissions Crisis
This summer saw a number of exciting projects taking place at UCSC, including the D@PP Summer of Service Tech Institute, a collaborative effort between GIIP and long term partner Center for Multicultural Cooperation in Fresno. The Digitally Abled Producers Project (D@PP) is an innovative program sponsored by CMC that teaches youth leaders skills to produce multi-generational documentaries of their community. Fifteen Central Valley D@PPers were chosen to attend the institute based on their commitment to civic engagement and peer leadership. read more...

GIIP Fellows Get a C.L.U.E
In the summer of 2007, three GIIP fellows, Dmitry Kogan, Maira Sutton, and Judy Esber, worked with coordinators and community leaders from Clergy and Laity United for Economic Justice in Los Angeles, California. CLUE is an interfaith association that brings people together to fight for worker rights and economic justice. CLUE organizes as well as educates the religious community in order to improve working conditions, raise wages, and give the working poor a voice in the job market and community. read more...
