GISES Major and Minor

In 2008 GIIP Fellows initiated a campaign to create an intensive major and minor in Global Information and Social Enterprise Studies (GISES).  Designed as a service learning program for the formation of digital social entrepreneurs, GISES is generously sponsored by the Department of Sociology and associated faculty.  The curriculum  centers on a three quarter, core course sequence (Sociology 30A,B,C), several applied technology courses, appropriate electives and, most importantly, the completion of an honors-quality Project Practicum (Sociology 196G).

The Project Practicum requires integration of social policy, information technology and collaborative learning with civil society groups such as schools, community organizations, and non-governmental organizations (NGOs). The GISES program provides an excellent foundation for students pursuing careers in non-profit management, community organizing, social advocacy, sustainable development and digital education.
